English 4AP-English Literature and Composition

ELA 12-AP Literature is a year-long English Literature and Composition course designed for seniors. This course focuses on examining the relationship between the author's purpose for his or her piece and how literary techniques used in that piece contribute to the overall meaning of the work. Emphasis is placed on analyzing the work's structure, style and themes as well as figurative language, imagery, symbolism and tone. Students will be expected to read from a wide variety of British and American literary genres (poetry, shorth stories, novels, plays) and periods over the course of the year.  Students are also expected to complete a summer and a winter break reading assignment.  All students taking the course are expected to sit for the AP Literature and Composition Examination in the spring. This course is College Board approved and meets and exceeds the California State Standards.
